- Background
TASIA creation had followed the path of all regular association formation with its share of difficulties to overcome and hoops to go through.
The bright spark leading to TASIA came through one of the most sorrowful event occurring in the Togolese community in Tucson.
In August 2006 , the Togolese community in Tucson lost abruptly a brother . This sudden death of a young citizen from our community shook brothers beyond our citizen hood and drew compassion from Africans residing in Tucson, in State of Arizona and out of State.
Togolese from Tucson took on them, during the funeral process, to pull together and foster a fraternal and friendship relationship among themselves.
The spontaneous pouring of generosity translated into cash donation and other material help received from Togolese and other Africans citizen.
Weeping citizens seized the moment and made out of the sorrow an emerging light of hope, a cry for fraternity and friendship.
The community was not healed of the demise of this brother when death hit for a second time taking away another young brother.
The light of hope grew even more and had since never died. It scored wins over difficulties to become TASIA on May 25, 2008.
2. TASIA creation
TASIA was created Sunday May 25, 2008. Instrumental to this creation were many brothers who worked tirelessly, giving out of their personal time and material resources to bring wishes to realty.
It all started with a first executive board named in the midst of the first funeral in September 2006. This board was to conduct temporary meeting sessions that will formalize the Association gathering Togolese nationals. Meetings proved difficult to have and the idea died after 2 meetings.
After 2 years of shade over our light , the second death brought fresh reminder to our will and commitment for a resolved and structured relationship between Togolese and promote sustainable financial environment to help Togolese.
Jean-Pierre Kuegah took the initiative for a prospective meeting and summoned some fellows on Wednesday January 30, 2008. This meeting initiative will open and generate strong energy that will end up to TASIA creation on May 25, 2008. Were present at that meeting : Jean-Pierre Kuegah, Francis Owagoke, Tete Akayi, Falana Kassim, Mathias Class, Kavi Lawson, Patrick Gbele.
Few meetings will be necessary to prepare the community and have the text of the new association ready. Important inputs from future members were made to lay out a strong foundation for the association and to have a constitution reflecting our values and vision. Debates were at time heated but always cordial and focused on the goal we all cherished.
Finally, on the blessed day of May 25, 2008 TASIA was created.
